In 1941, the original Tri-County Lumber was formed by Carl Trovall and Margaret Blakely in Clearwater, MN. In 1955, Jack Trovall (Carl's son) became a partner in the company. Brad Hartkopf was hired by Tri-County Lumber in 1973. Upon Margaret's retirement in 1978, the original Tri-County Lumber was sold, and closed in 1985. In 1984, Jack and Brad co-founded a lumber company in another community. Jack retired in 1995. In 1998, Brad sold his share in the company.
In 2001, sixty years after it's beginning, Tri-County Lumber was re-established in Clearwater by Jack Trovall and Brad Hartkopf, along with their sons Deron Trovall, and Jason Hartkopf.
The new Tri-County Lumber has over 100 years of combined lumber experience between the four partners. Jack's experience began in 1955, Brad has 29 years of experience in the lumber industry, Deron has 20 years of experience in the lumber industry, and Jason comes to Tri-County with a degree in architectural drafting and estimating from Dunwoody Institute.
